Frustration and glassiness in spin models with cavity-mediated interactions.
We show that the effective spin-spin interaction between three-level atoms confined in a multimode optical cavity is long-ranged and sign changing, like the RKKY interaction; therefore, ensembles of such atoms subject to frozen-in positional randomness can realize spin systems having disordered and frustrated interactions. We argue that, whenever the atoms couple to sufficiently many cavity mod...
متن کاملFrustration, area law, and interference in quantum spin models.
We study frustrated quantum systems from a quantum information perspective. Within this approach, we find that highly frustrated systems do not follow any general "area law" of block entanglement, while weakly frustrated ones have area laws similar to those of nonfrustrated systems away from criticality. To calculate the block entanglement in systems with degenerate ground states, typical in fr...
متن کاملSelf-Induced Glassiness and Pattern Formation in Spin Systems Subject to Long-Range Interactions.
We study the glass formation in two- and three-dimensional Ising and Heisenberg spin systems subject to competing interactions and uniaxial anisotropy with a mean-field approach. In three dimensions, for sufficiently strong anisotropy the systems always modulate in a striped phase. Below a critical strength of the anisotropy, a glassy phase exists in a finite range of temperature, and it become...
متن کاملFrom frustration to glassiness via quantum fluctuations and random tiling with exotic entropy
When magnetic moments (spins) are regularly arranged in a geometry of a triangular motif, the spins may not satisfy simultaneously their interactions with their neighbors. This phenomenon, called frustration, leads to numerous energetically equivalent magnetic states (ground states), which results in exotic states such as spin liquid and spin ice. Here we report an alternative situation: a syst...
متن کاملCalogero-Moser models with noncommutative spin interactions.
We construct integrable generalizations of the elliptic Calogero-Sutherland-Moser model of particles with spin, involving noncommutative spin interactions. The spin coupling potential is a modular function and, generically, breaks the global spin symmetry of the model down to a product of U(1) phase symmetries. Previously known models are recovered as special cases.
